The magic noodle

As a result, emperor Zhu had no choice but to migrate civilians from the war-free Jinnan plain to the north in order to restore the vitality of the Chinese emperor. On the side of the Guangji temple in Hongdong county of Shanxi province, sits an ancient locust tree planted in the Han Dynasty.

For thousands of years, this place has been the resting spot for passersby from both north and south. Those that were forced to migrate gathered beneath this ancient locust tree before parting ways. And a bowl of hot noodle became their everlasting memories of the place they called home.

Amongst them was a branch that headed westward and settled in the Northwest end of China - Lanzhou. In Lanzhou, they settled, lived and multiplied. They also brought with them the taste, and memories of that last bowl of hot noodles from home. Now, in Canada, the descendants of previous immigrants gathered. They share the same accent and enjoy the same aroma of the noodles. At home, the ancient locust tree stands still, for it is their root no matter where they go.

We were impressed by the range of regional specialties that included Lanzhou noodle soup, Chongqing spicy noodle soup and a Taiwanese tomato beef brisket noodle soup.

We were smitten with everything we tried, but we leaned more toward the noodle soups. What kind of soup we ordered also influenced the style of noodles that would come with it. Some dishes were mellow and others spicy. And we could always adjust the flavors by adding condiments provided at the table — chili oil, soy sauce or Chinese black vinegar. A Shanxi shaved noodle soup with beef brisket was mild and came with flat noodles cut into slivers.

A Chongqing spicy noodle soup, on the other hand, came with those mile-long noodles we watched being made, and packed plenty of heat. Entrees that are more traditionally served with rice are also offered at Magic Noodle, but you have the option of choosing noodles instead. We enjoyed a braised egg-and-pork dish in which we opted for noodles rather than rice.

Magic Noodle, Joplin

It was a mild dish, yet flavorful thanks to ingredients such as pork belly and pickled mustard greens, and there was just enough broth to keep the noodles easy to slurp. Magic Noodle has more than just excellent noodle dishes. One of the best things we tried was on the appetizer menu — Sichuan wontons in a pool of chili oil, scallions and chopped peanuts. It might be just the ticket for you, too — if you can stand a bit of heat. The restaurant may be just a few weeks old, but this newcomer has a well-planned menu and great service.

If there were ever enough reasons to check a new restaurant out, Magic Noodle sure has a lot of pull. Information ; magicnoodleusa. Small Bites are first glances — not intended as definitive reviews — of new or changed restaurants. By Nancy Ngo nngo pioneerpress.

Place was packed but the servers were Great and they were very attentive to our table. Our food came out fast especially for handmade noodles. The food was so flavorful. I tried the Szechuan noodles. The handmade noodles were just the right amount of softness and chewiness.

But the Szechuan noodles did not have broth like if you were looking for more of a soup that just for noodles. The magic noodle restaurant definitely needs to find a place with more seating because there was just such a high demand for the food and just a really long wait for Sunday afternoon which was around pm off lunch hours.

But I enjoyed the service, the food, and atmosphere as well as the design, and I will definitely return. Get directions Address. Popular collections including The Magic Noodle.
